Empowering Women in Jazz

place des femmes

In France, in 2022, women accounted for only 30% of artists programmed at jazz festivals and venues*. We are committed to greater equality through several key initiatives:
– Visibility → A gender-balanced programme for several years, ensuring equal representation of male and female leads, with the goal of achieving full gender parity across all artists.
– Awareness & Legitimisation → Showcasing female role models through conferences and educational initiatives to highlight their work and contributions.
– Training → Providing our staff with training in the prevention of gender-based and sexual violence, equipping them with the knowledge to mitigate risks and take effective action.

Bringing Jazz to the Next Generation

égalité homme femme

We strive to introduce younger generations to the richness of jazz and its spirit of sharing through three dedicated programmes:

  • Jazz in Schools → An interactive concert and instrument discovery session for 90 to 200 pupils in a primary school (Paris, 75).
  • Jazz in Middle Schools → Artist-led workshops in collaboration with teachers in Sainte-Geneviève-des-Bois (91).
  • Jazz in High Schools → Artistic workshops with professional musicians for students in Deuil-La-Barre (95) and Courbevoie (92).

Reaching Marginalised Audiences

Public éloignés

Music should be a vehicle for inclusion. We work to ensure that jazz resonates everywhere and for everyone:

  • Jazz in Prisons (during the Festival) → Music workshops for inmates in several correctional facilities across the Île-de-France region, in partnership with SPIP.
  • Accessible Pricing → Ticket prices starting from €10 to make concerts more widely accessible.
  • Free Tickets for Those in Need → In partnership with Culture du Cœur, invitations are distributed to beneficiaries of social organisations (with a 100% attendance rate).
  • Coming Soon: Technology & Inclusivity for the Hearing Impaired → The introduction of immersive vibrating vests for an enhanced musical experience.

Hosting an Eco-Responsible Festival

engagement du festival dans l'écologie

@Ian Panelo

In France, the primary source of CO₂ emissions for jazz event organisers stems from transportation (artists, audiences, technical teams, staff). We are committed to reducing our environmental impact through concrete actions:

  • Reducing Transport Emissions → Prioritising artists already based in France, optimising technical transport schedules, and sourcing suppliers as close as possible to event locations.
  • Minimising Plastic Use → Providing teams and artists with reusable, recyclable water bottles.
  • Lowering Meat Consumption → Aiming for a more responsible festival without compromising the musical experience.

Preserving the Heritage of Saint-Germain-des-Prés

Patrimoine
  • A Unique Architectural Heritage → Our concerts are hosted in iconic venues, actively contributing to their renovation programmes: Théâtre de l’Odéon, Église Saint-Germain-des-Prés, Monnaie de Paris, Maison de l’Océan, Église and Place Saint-Sulpice, Musée de Cluny… to name but a few.
  • A Global Cultural Legacy → The festival honours and reinvents the rich jazz history of Saint-Germain-des-Prés, its historic European home, recognised worldwide.

This commitment aligns seamlessly with our core mission: championing artistic creation in jazz!
