DAZZLING IMPROVISATIONS AND THE CANDOR OF A FOLK SINGER
Her vocal prowess and exceptional presence had literally transfixed festival audiences in 2014 in the Saint-Germain-des-Prés church. Ten years on from a breathtaking international career, South Korean singer Youn Sun Nah has released her twelfth album, “Elles”, a piano-voice duo: a surprising anthology of covers, a tribute to the female singers she has always admired, from Nina Simone to Roberta Flack via Björk or Edith Piaf, transcending eras and musical borders.
Far from being a pale copy, Youn Sun Nah – recently awarded the title of Officier des Arts et des Lettres – delivers a complete and deeply moving rewriting, with the sensitivity of a goldsmith.
Her latest album is brought to the stage by one of France’s finest pianists, Bojan Z, who has made a name for himself in numerous solo performances and with Michel Portal.
For the first time, the singer invited a top-flight guest, the intrepid saxophonist Thomas de Pourquery, to perform four tracks exclusively for the festival.
Exclusive to the festival, the singer invites a top-flight guest for the first time on four tracks, the intrepid saxophonist Thomas de Pourquery.
Without a doubt, the opening concert of this year’s edition promises to be in a state of grace, just like the unforgettable musical encounters imagined over the last fifteen years by the festival for its concerts in one of Paris’s most beautiful theaters: magical!
